Safety first — lockout / tagout

Shut the upstream gas cock and disconnect the 208/240 V supply at the breaker before opening any panel. The control box carries live 115 / 230 VAC even when the oven is "off" at the membrane switch. If you smell gas, leave the area and call your utility.

Three faults, three flows

Pick the symptom that matches what the oven is doing right now. Each flow ends in a parts list and an option to escalate to a certified tech if it is beyond a comfortable DIY scope.

Symptom

Conveyor Not Moving

Belt is stopped while burners are firing — almost always speed control board, motor power, or interlock temperature.

Middleby Marshall control box wiring and speed control schematic with possible-causes call-outs.

Diagnostic flow

  1. 1Confirm oven is at operating temperature — conveyor is locked out until cavity is within 150°F / 65°C of setpoint. Wait for full warm-up before condemning parts.
  2. 2Pop the control box and verify 115/230 VAC input at the Elan / Middleby speed control board (PN 64149, 90 VDC 0.68 A output to the motor).
  3. 3Check the PPo preset matches your oven model (program-mode list on the orange board label).
  4. 4Measure 0–90 VDC at the +ARM / –ARM terminals with the conveyor command on. No DC out → board. DC present, motor still dead → motor or wiring.
  5. 5Inspect drive chain, sprocket key, and belt take-up. A sheared coupling will mimic an electrical fault.

Likely parts

  • Elan / Middleby speed control board — PN 64149 (Elan EC023002)
  • Conveyor drive motor (90 VDC, ~0.68 A) — black or gray motor per PPo table
  • Drive chain, sprocket, and #25 master link
Symptom

Main Blower Error

Display shows a blower fault, oven refuses to fire, or air-pressure switch never proves. Work the 15 A breaker → motor power → pressure switch chain in order.

Middleby Marshall air-flow pressure switch with sensing hoses and ground lug.

Diagnostic flow

  1. 1Reset and verify the two 15 A control-circuit breakers in the control box.
  2. 2Confirm 115 VAC at the blower motor leads when the oven calls for blower; no voltage → relay / control transformer.
  3. 3Verify the air-flow proving switch closes at 0.08" W.C. / 0.20 mBar of cavity pressure. If the blower is spinning but the switch never makes, replace it.
  4. 4Jumper the pressure switch contacts momentarily (only with techs present) — if the oven now runs, the switch or sensing tubing is the failure.
  5. 5Use the wiring diagram (above) to ring out the blower-motor relay coil and contacts on the main control board.

Likely parts

  • Air-flow / pressure proving switch (0.08" W.C. trip)
  • Blower motor and run capacitor
  • 15 A control-circuit breaker
  • Main control relay (coil voltage per schematic)
Symptom

Oven Not Baking Properly

Pizzas come out pale, raw, or burned on one end. 80% of the time it is thermocouple drift, finger placement, or cross-currents from the hood — not the burner.

Diagnostic flow

  1. 1Confirm setpoint and bake-time are correct for the product. Verify with a separate probe thermometer at the belt level.
  2. 2Inspect the air fingers — wrong order or a missing blank changes the heat profile end-to-end.
  3. 3Walk the hood / make-up air system. A cross-current sucking heat out of the entrance is a common false-negative.
  4. 4Pull the thermocouple and read DC mV at cavity temperature. Compare to the chart — replace if off by more than ±0.75 mV (72°F junction reference = 1.134 mV).
  5. 5If mV is correct but the controller reads wrong, the temperature controller / display board is suspect.

Likely parts

  • Type-K thermocouple (oven-rated, fiberglass-lead)
  • Air-finger blank-off plates and finger gaskets
  • Temperature controller / display board

Fenwal ignition module LED codes

Standard Fenwal 35-series board used on PS-series gas ovens. Count the slow flashes on the diagnostic LED before swapping parts.

LED patternWhat it means
Steady ONNormal operation — flame proven, no faults.
1 flashAir-flow / interlock open. Check pressure switch and high-limit.
2 flashesFlame sensed with no call for heat. Leaking gas valve or shorted flame rod wiring.
3 flashesIgnition lockout. Three trials failed — check spark, gas pressure, flame rod position.
4 flashesLow secondary voltage / control fault. Verify 24 VAC to module and ground.
