Samsung SmartThings
OTA updates, series service modes, and Family Hub's two stacks
Samsung's owner OTA path in SmartThings, why the update dongle is taught as a bulletin check rather than a file, how to look up a series service mode instead of memorising one combo, and why updating a Family Hub screen does not fix cooling.

What you will be able to do
- Walk the SmartThings firmware update path without touching the panel mid-flash
- Treat a non-Wi-Fi washer update as a bulletin question, not a file hunt
- Look up a series service mode instead of assuming one combination covers Samsung
- Separate Family Hub OS problems from cooling and inverter problems
- Escalate a persistent Family Hub brick to authorised service correctly
The owner path is short and it works
In SmartThings, open the device, then Information, then Firmware or Software Update. If an update is available the app will apply it. The single most important instruction to give the customer, and to follow yourself, is hands off the panel while it flashes.
A machine that appears unresponsive during a flash is doing its job. Pressing keys or cutting power at that moment is how a routine update becomes a control replacement.
Dongles and non-Wi-Fi washers
Some Samsung washers with no radio still receive controller software through a Samsung update dongle. This track teaches that as a concept and a decision, not a download: check the bulletin for the model, and check the last digits of the controller version to see where the machine sits.
That is deliberate. There is no legitimate public file for this, FixGrid will not host one, and a machine updated from an unofficial image is a machine nobody will warranty.
Service mode varies by series
Samsung service-mode entry is series-specific. There is no single key combination that opens every Samsung washer, and any source that claims there is will eventually cost you a control.
The professional habit is: identify the series from the model number, open that series' tech sheet, and use the documented entry. As one clearly labelled example only — on several classic top-load series the documented entry is a specific two-button hold on the panel — but you confirm it on the sheet for the series in front of you before you press anything.
Family Hub is two computers
A Family Hub refrigerator runs the cooling control and the Family Hub OS as separate software stacks. The screen can be perfectly current while the inverter or the sealed system is failing, and the screen can be broken while the food stays cold.
So when the complaint is temperature, the screen is not your subject. When the complaint is the screen, the sealed system is not your subject. Say which one you are working on out loud, on the ticket.
